The Oregon Beach



Another great reason to come visit us here in Oregon (besides free lodging and food for your entire stay!!!), is the beach.

Now I won't try to tell you it's like a So. Cal beach. It's not. It is a different experience, but I think you will love it in a way you love avocados AND tomatoes. Different experiences, but great nonetheless.

Top 10 things to do at an Oregon beach anytime of year: (in no particular order)


1. Watch the waves

Jack immediately jumped out of the car and climbed on the fence to get a better view.

I could watch waves for hours and hours.

2. Chase waves. This is especially fun if you forgot to bring extra clothes for the kids, it makes it more daring and exciting.

3. Draw in the sand with sticks, your shoes, or anything else you can find.

4. Take really fun and great pictures with your family. The ocean is the BEST backdrop!


5. Explore caves and rocks around the beach.


6. Play in water areas that flow out of the rocks.

7. Just take in the INCREDIBLE views of nature.

8. Play with rocks and sticks and find sea creatures in the rocks. We didn't find any today, but I have seen many on previous Oregon beach trips.

9. Build sand castles. Still fun to dig in the sand, even if you don't go in the water. We didn't bring our shovel gear this time, but will for sure next time.

10. Eat a picnic on the beach. (But don't feed the seagulls, Eric fed one, and all of sudden there were 35 seagulls circling us, and trying to walk up to us. It was like The Birds movie, but in real life. We decided to leave at that point.)

Mainly to help make it a good time, just dress warm, and adjust your ocean expectation meter. I was surprised the kids immediately jumped into playing in the sand and chasing waves like they would have at a Cali beach. They could have stayed there for much longer than we ended up being there. It was such a fun family trip we will be repeating soon.


We saw these flowers starting to poke up all over this field on our drive back. It was beautiful. The picture doesn't really do it justice.

We then went to the Tillamook factory where we saw the Bennions (Gary took this picture), but unfortunately didn't get any pictures of them. What great people they are, it's always delightful to talk to them! I love how they have just boys at home now, just like my family, and their big family makes me feel right at home with them.

We went on their self guided tour on how they make cheese. Then ate some free samples.

Jack sat here at this cow smiling for a long time even after this picture was taken. It was cute.

Eric finally joined him.

What a fun day to round off Eric's super busy crazy work week. Come join us next time!

Oh my gosh, Avey is adorable in that video. "Cheeeeese!" And Jack's cow smile is perfect. :D

Seriously tears in my eyes as I see your beautiful pictures! The next time you are out by Tillamook be sure to go hike Munson Falls, it's perfect for the little guys and SO PRETTY! Okay, so it is killing me to wait till June to come (I want to wait for Strawberries and Tulips!) Because Gwen's spring break is the week of April 9th....maybe I can justify coming twice? :) I am so so so so so very sad that we did not take the Beaverton job. SO SAD. I can't talk about it *sniffle*.

"Hello new world," says Avey.

Well well here we are. A long road of pregnancy, a long way from home, and a VERY short labor everything came out perfectly (pardon the pun). At 12:01 a.m. on December 8, 2009 Avey _____* Stevenson was born. She weighs 9 pounds, 2.2 Ounces and measures 21 cm in length. News Flash!

This is an 11 week ultrasound, and looks close to what my ultrasound looked like, I just can't find where my original went. Oh well, so is the sad life of a second child. Yes! It is true! I am 11 weeks pregnant! I was supposed to be 12 weeks pregnant today, but when my doctor measured the size of the baby it was a week smaller than 12 weeks, even when he did it twice. So rather than my due date being December 1st, it has gotten pushed back to December 8th. I get to be 11 weeks along for two weeks! Awesome! It's really not that bad, and I normally wouldn't wouldn't tell anyone until at least 12 weeks, but the doctor found a heartbeat, and says everything looks healthy and good to go, so I don't want to wait to tell people anymore! (Besides I "technically" waited until I was 12 weeks. :) For those that are dying to know I have definitely felt better than I did with Jack. I haven't taken any medicine to help with the nausea- and that could be ...

Another Grocery Craze!

After going to Albertsons this morning (6:15 AM- don't you worry, long story) and bringing in all the groceries from the car, Eric requested that I take pictures of everything and the receipts. So per request of him, this post is here. Here's all the stuff with Jack in the middle (Well almost all of it, Eric took a bunch of it to work today before I took this picture.) Don't worry, Jack wasn't part of the groceries I bought.
