We started off October with a weekend of general conference. What an inspiring two days it was!
We had our traditional pancakes and whipped cream and sliced strawberries for breakfast.
We also went on a walk after the last session on Sunday.

The kids also had a Friday off school, so Eric took it off with us, and we played!
He organized all the kids in this spinning pyramid and did different sciencey experiments with them. Like what happens if we try to climb from top to bottom while it's spinning, or if we all hold hands and walk to the center while it's spinning, what happens. Real life learning on days off school is great!
The kids went to the rock museum in Hillsboro with Eric that day too. It has kind of weird hours and Eric really wanted to go with them, so they went during Ellie's nap.
It was really interesting, and the kids learned a lot.
This was one of Jack's summer fun list bucket items. He had learned about rocks in school the year before, and had wanted to go ever since.
They even let each kid take a rock from this pile before they left.
Ellie's friend Westley invited her to the zoo, and since animals are Ellie's favorite, we of course said yes!

Carrie also had her second annual pie night! The pies were amazing, I don't know how the judges chose winners. But it was great conversation as well.
Avey also lost her first tooth, although it was one week after Jack, so I think it was in September, but at least it's documented now.
We went to PCC's fall activity event
It was little, but really fun. They had a photo area and they printed off the pictures for you, and you decorated a halloween frame to put it in.

There was a hay ride out to the pumpkin patch, and a place to pick your own pumpkins for free. Face painting, free apple cider and hot chocolate, a paint mini pumpkins area, leaf drawings, a cake walk, pumpkin bowling and a petting zoo.
Halloween started with a craft I had gotten at Target a few weeks previously- Halloween shaped wood and paint for $1, such a steal. I just forgot to get one for Ellie, so she's painting a rectangle piece of wood. She doesn't really care though if you can tell.
We had our last soccer games of the season (hallelujah!) on Halloween, so we went to those, and poor Avey played in a complete downpour. Ellie wasn't feeling the best, but we finally coaxed her to put on her costume right before the trunk or treat. We had a minecraft Steve, little Elsa, and cute witch. I think Ellie had forgotten what Halloween was, or we didn't explain it to her very well this year, because during the trunk or treat she went a little hesitantly to the first car, but then when they gave her some candy her eyes lit up, she looked back at Eric and ran to the next car. :)
The entire day it was a downpour, with no letup until around 7:30 PM, so we ended up making it around the circle park for the trunk or treat, and then not even even around our cul-de-sac before the kids were begging to go home for some hot apple cider and get in their warm pajamas. Eric started a real fire in our fireplace, and we ended up watching part of Harry Potter while the kids ate their candy. It was a really delightful Halloween night. :)
